Judges’ arrest: NJC meeting to continue Wednesday

The emergency meeting of the National Judicial Council called over the arrest of seven judges by operatives of the State Security Service will continue on Wednesday.
The meeting began on Tuesday, at midday and lasted till evening.
Journalists had gathered intermittently around the NJC office, venue of the meeting in an effort to get details of its outcome.
Security operatives however ensured that the crowd of journalists were not allowed close to the venue.
The NJC had called the meeting to discuss the arrest of the judges by the SSS, after the judges’ homes were raided between Friday night and Saturday morning.
The raid has drawn disparate comments from Nigerians across the nation and beyond.
While the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, said it was in line with the process of investigation, the National Assembly on Tuesday described it as an abuse of the law setting up the SSS.
